About Lake Balaton

Lake Balaton is the largest lake in central Europe, measuring 80 km long and 15 km wide. Its average depth is 3 meters, with a maximum depth of 11 meters. The bottom of the lake is covered with fine velvety sand, which allows the sun’s rays to warm the water rapidly.

Lake Balaton is the second most visited tourist destination in Hungary after Budapest—and for good reason. Clean, warm water, picturesque coastal landscapes, and healing springs make this resort popular not only among Hungarian residents but also among tourists from all over Europe. The beaches of Balaton have been awarded the Blue Flag of the European Union for their ecological cleanliness and developed infrastructure.
