Most travelers prefer to travel from Budapest to Debrecen by railways. Most of the trains to Debrecen leave from the Western Station (Budapest Nyugati pályaudvar). Although some trains depart to Debrecen from the Eastern Station, also called the Keleti Station (Budapest Keleti pályaudvar). Travel times range from 2.5 hours on the InterCity train to 4-5 hours on regional trains.

One-way train ticket price from Budapest to Debrecen is about 3950 forints (about 13 eur).
It is quite easy to get to the Nyugati train station by taking the blue M3 metro line until the Nyugati pályaudvar metro station.

If you are planning to get from Budapest airport to Budapest Nyugati railway station by public transport, it might offer the easiest way.
Public transport of Budapest is fast and convenient, equipped with regular lines (as well as night lines), and accurate timetables. Public transport includes metro, tram, bus, and trolleybus. All transport operates from 4:30 am to 11:00 pm. At each entrance of the metro station, boards with a diagram of the city transport network are installed. The rules of travel are also indicated in English and German. At all bus and tram stops you will find route timetables, and a traffic map at the major stops. Tickets can be purchased at ticket machines located right next to the bus stop or from the driver. Tickets purchased on the bus will cost 10 forints more.
Bus 200E goes to the stop “M3 Kőbánya-Kispest metro station”.
From this metro station, you can go to the metro station Nyugati pályaudvar, M3 blue line (Western railway station).

Deák Ferenc tér (the terminus of the 100E bus) is the very center of Budapest. The bus 100E is the best way to get from the airport to the city center, to the junction station of Budapest metro (Deák Ferenc tér). From this metro station, you can go to the metro station Nyugati pályaudvar, M3 blue line (Western railway station).
