Stories from the road

Real wine tours we've planned

A look at the days we design — from helicopter tours of Villány to long lunches in Tokaj.

How your wine tour works

Pick your winery, choose how you travel, and leave the driving to us — every trip is private, fixed-price and door-to-door from Budapest or the airport.

One-way transfer

A private car straight to the winery — ideal if you're staying in the region.

Return, driver waits

Your driver waits while you tour and taste, then brings you back to Budapest.

Custom itinerary

We plan the full day — multiple cellars, lunch and private tastings arranged for you.

By helicopter

Trade the drive for a scenic flight to Tokaj, Villány, Badacsony or Szekszárd.

Hungary's wine regions, from Budapest

Seven distinct regions, each an easy private transfer from the capital — from the sweet golden wines of Tokaj to the bold reds of Villány and the volcanic whites of Lake Balaton.

Tokaj

~2h 20min northeast helicopter

The world's most storied sweet-wine region and a UNESCO World Heritage site, Tokaj is famous for golden Tokaji Aszú — once the wine of tsars and popes — and, increasingly, for bone-dry, mineral Furmint. Our private wine tours reach first-growth estates such as Disznókő, Szepsy, Royal Tokaji and Tokaj-Oremus.

Villány

~2h 45min south helicopter

Hungary's warmest region and its red-wine capital, Villány is celebrated for velvety Cabernet Franc — the local 'Villányi Franc' — and powerful Bordeaux-style blends. A wine tour here takes in landmark cellars like Gere Attila, Bock, Sauska and Vylyan, many with on-site restaurants and hotels.

Eger

~1h 35min northeast

Home of the legendary Egri Bikavér ('Bull's Blood') and the fresh, aromatic white Egri Csillag, Eger is the easiest full wine day out from Budapest. Its leading modern cellars — St. Andrea, Thummerer and Kovács Nimród — pair centuries of history with world-class winemaking.

Badacsony

~2h 10min west helicopter

On the north shore of Lake Balaton, the volcanic basalt cone of Badacsony produces some of Hungary's finest whites — Olaszrizling, Furmint and the rare, prized Kéknyelű — best enjoyed with a sweeping lake view at design-led estates such as Laposa and Szászi.

Szekszárd

~1h 50min south helicopter

A characterful red-wine region south of Budapest, Szekszárd is known for spicy Kékfrankos, its own style of Bikavér and the fragrant, near-extinct Kadarka revived by growers like Heimann and Takler — lighter and more elegant than the region's Bordeaux blends.

Somló

~1h 55min west

Hungary's smallest historic wine region is a single volcanic hill rising from the plain. Somló makes powerful, age-worthy, intensely mineral whites — above all the flagship Juhfark — plus acclaimed traditional-method sparkling, at estates like Kreinbacher and Tornai.

Etyek

~40 min west

The closest serious wine region to Budapest, Etyek is Hungary's sparkling-wine and crisp-white hub — perfect for a relaxed half-day. Estates such as Etyeki Kúria pour cool-climate Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc barely 35 km from the city.

Wine tour FAQs

The price is fixed and quoted upfront when you book, based on the distance to your winery, the vehicle and whether you choose a one-way transfer or a full return day with the driver waiting. Enter your winery and party size in the planner on any winery page to see live prices.
Etyek (~40 minutes) and Eger (~1h35) are the easiest full-day trips. Tokaj, Villány, Badacsony, Somló and Szekszárd are between 1h50 and 2h45 each way and make relaxed long days or overnight stays — a private driver makes any of them comfortable, since no one has to drive after tasting.
Yes — that's the whole point. Your English-speaking driver handles the journey there and back, so everyone in your party can taste freely. Choose the return option and the driver waits at the winery while you tour and taste, then drives you home to Budapest.
Many of Hungary's top estates are tasting-by-appointment, which suits a pre-booked private transfer perfectly. Tell us your winery and dates and we'll time the transfer to your booking — or arrange the tasting and a guide for you as part of a custom itinerary.
Yes. Alongside private cars we run minibuses and full-size coaches, so a larger group can tour the wineries together in one vehicle.
Absolutely. Book the return/day-hire option and your driver stays with you for the day, so you can combine two or three cellars with lunch and some sightseeing at your own pace.
Yes — helicopter transfers run to the Tokaj, Villány, Badacsony and Szekszárd wine regions, a scenic flight straight to the vineyards. See our Wine Tours by Helicopter page for details.
Yes. Choose Budapest Airport (BUD) as your pickup and we'll collect you from arrivals with flight tracking, so you can head straight to wine country the moment you land.
