When and where is Sziget 2026?
Sziget 2026 takes place from Tuesday 11 to Saturday 15 August, with a warm-up “Day Zero” on 10 August and the closing party spilling into Sunday morning. The festival lives on Óbuda Island (Óbudai-sziget) in the Danube, in northern Budapest — a green, 108-hectare island that locals nickname the “Island of Freedom.” It’s a genuine camping festival: most people pitch a tent and stay for the whole week, though plenty of visitors base themselves in the city and travel in each day.

Sziget isn’t just a concert lineup — it’s closer to a week-long temporary city. Between stages you’ll find circus and theatre performances, large-scale art installations, a beach on the Danube, sports and wellness areas, an all-night party district and dozens of food vendors from around the world. The crowd is famously international, with visitors from 100+ countries, and the atmosphere is relaxed and inclusive. Days start slow and lazy; the island really comes alive from late afternoon into the early hours.

Camping and where to stay
A standard ticket includes basic camping — you can pitch your own tent in the free camping zones around the festival. If you want more comfort, Sziget offers upgrades like Sziget Ville Premium (wellness facilities, Wi-Fi, 24-hour desk), Camping of Nations, caravan spots and pre-pitched glamping tents. Bringing your own tent? You’ll pay a small refundable “Leave-no-tent” deposit, part of Sziget’s push to cut plastic waste.
Prefer a real bed? Many visitors stay in a Budapest hotel and commute to the island each day — the city centre is only a short train or transfer ride away.
How to get to the island
The island itself is best reached by public transport — during the festival the roads by the entrance are restricted, so this is one journey where the train wins:
- By train (HÉV H5): the suburban railway runs from Batthyány tér / Margit híd to Filatorigát, a short walk from the entrance, every 15–20 minutes. This is how most people travel.
- By taxi: a good option late at night when trains thin out — expect queues at peak exit times.
- From the airport: the 100E Airport Express reaches the centre in about an hour, where you connect to the HÉV.
