The address is Állatkerti krt. 9-11, 1146 Hungary.

The bath complex was opened in 1913 and has been a popular destination for both locals and tourists ever since. It was named after István Széchenyi, a Hungarian statesman, political figure, and key supporter of the development of Hungary in the 19th century. The bathhouse is known for its stunning neo-baroque architecture. The yellow building with its grand entrance and outdoor pools is an iconic landmark in Budapest.

Széchenyi Thermal Bath is famous for its numerous indoor and outdoor thermal pools. The water comes from two thermal springs, and the temperature of the water varies in different pools, ranging from 18 to 40 degrees Celsius (64 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit). Swimming Pools: In addition to the thermal pools, there are also regular swimming pools, including a large outdoor swimming pool where visitors can swim and enjoy the benefits of the thermal water. Saunas and Steam Cabins: The complex also offers a variety of saunas and steam cabins, providing additional relaxation and wellness options. Massages and Treatments: Visitors can indulge in various spa and wellness treatments, including massages, facials, and other therapeutic services.

Night Bathing: Széchenyi Thermal Bath is known for its “Sparty” events, where the bathhouse turns into a vibrant party venue at night, combining the relaxation of thermal baths with music, lights, and a lively atmosphere

Széchenyi Thermal Bath offers a unique and relaxing experience, allowing visitors to enjoy the healing properties of thermal waters in a historic and beautiful setting.

Széchenyi Thermal Bath is a popular attraction, so planning your visit and transportation in advance can help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Pools and water temperatures

According to the bath’s own pool list, there are three outdoor pools: a 50-metre swimming pool at 26–28 °C, an activity pool at 30–34 °C and a thermal pool at 38 °C. Inside there are 16 more pools, 13 of them in the thermal section, plus saunas and steam rooms. The water comes from deep thermal springs under City Park, which is why the outdoor pools can stay warm when the air is cold.

Széchenyi in winter

Winter is one of the best times to go. The outdoor pools stay open year-round, and on a cold day the steam rising off the water over the yellow neo-baroque courtyard is one of the classic Budapest sights. Go straight from the changing rooms to the 38 °C pool, and keep a towel and slippers close for the walk between buildings. Weekday mornings are usually calmer than weekends, and the bath lists Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other public holidays as its peak periods, when weekend prices apply.

Opening hours and tickets

Current opening hours on the official site are Monday to Thursday 07:00–20:00, Friday 07:00–22:00, and Saturday and Sunday 08:00–20:00. Check the official site before you go, as hours can change around holidays. You need to leave the pools 20 minutes before closing time. The bath recommends buying tickets online in advance, and you can book up to 180 days ahead. A daily ticket lets you stay until closing.

You can choose a locker or a private cabin. Cabins are larger and can take a backpack or suitcase, which helps if you are visiting on the way to or from the airport. Towels, swimsuits and slippers are not included in the daily ticket, so bring your own or buy them on site. A swimming cap is required in the pools marked with a cap pictogram.

Children

Since 1 August 2025, children under 14 cannot visit Széchenyi Bath. Families with younger children will need to plan a different spa; see our guide to Hajdúszoboszló, whose Aqua-Palace indoor adventure bath is open year-round.

Getting there

The bath is at Állatkerti körút 9–11, 1146 Budapest, in City Park. The official site suggests the Millennium Underground (M1 metro line); trolleybus 72 also stops nearby.
